I'm excited to host a band today on a special space mission episode of Recipe Records Radio Show. Joining me from Greenbelt, Maryland, at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is a group of rocket scientists that are more rock star than any astrophysicist you might imagine.
NAKED SINGULARITY: Maggie Masetti, (web, outreach, and social media for the JWST, Hubble's successor being built now at Goddard) vocals, guitar, trumpet; Kevin Boyce (joint Japanese/US mission that will be X-ray astronomy), bass, vocals;
Rich Kelley (the lead scientist on an instrument that they're building for that project), lead guitar;
Rob Gersten (Earth Science at Goddard), drums; Joe Nigro (Earth Science at Goddard), lead guitar,;
also Tali Figueroa, drums/backing vocals.
The band 'Naked Singularity' has been playing together for more than a decade and are what I consider the perfect blend of using your day job to create material for your true hobby or passion. Their original music lyrics often poke fun at the struggle of the 9-5 grind, but do so in a comfy haven of musical goodness.
Tune in today to hear them discuss the meaning of naked singularity or perhaps even 'Hawking Radiation.' When asked for a cool astrophysics band name, a fellow astrophysicist suggested "Naked Singularity," adding that "the term might be misunderstood by your audience and lead to a decline in public morals, which is not part of NASA's charter"....and so this group of astrophysicists quickly adopted the name for their band.....

The band just released their first CD, titled "Last Call" which has been a labor of love for these musicians who wrote all of the material, recorded, mixed & mastered it completely....which is no small task....
So tune in to hear this terrific band whose motto is:
"Not as geeky as you think"
